Professor

Daichi Maeda

MD, Ph.D.
Pathologist
Molecular pathologist
Graduated from the University of Tokyo (H16)

After completing initial clinical training, I became a pathologist, and since then I have been conducting research activities in parallel with on-site pathological diagnosis work. After 8 years at the University of Tokyo, 4 years at Akita University, and 3 years at Osaka University, I joined Kanazawa University in 2021 and run the Department of Molecular and Cellular Pathology. I would like to create a bright classroom by making use of my experience of seeing how pathological diagnosis, research, and education should be at multiple universities across the region. I myself have aspired to conduct research in the form of accumulating basic data based on the realizations and insights obtained in the course of pathological diagnosis work. We place importance on the development of human resources who are capable of doing research, and human resources who can pick up and organize information from specimens. I will spare no effort in educating them for that purpose. While focusing on observation under an optical microscope, we believe that we can bring about new developments in pathology by actively introducing next-generation sequencing and other new technologies.

Associate Professor

Masafumi Horie

MD, Ph.D.
General internal medicine specialist
Respiratory specialist
Allergist
JSBi Certified Bioinformatics Technician
Japan Medical Association Certified Occupational Physician
Graduated from the University of Tokyo (H17)

After graduating, while conducting clinical practice as a pulmonary physician, I started basic research centered on a molecular biological approach on the theme of questions I had in the clinical setting. After completing his doctoral course, I worked on the pathogenesis of respiratory diseases using CAGE-seq and single-cell analysis at RIKEN and the University of Southern California. I have also been involved in cancer genomic medicine such as panel testing. At Kanazawa University, I would like to take advantage of our experience so far to fuse the genome, transcriptome, and epigenome information of various diseases with pathology, and work to open up new frontiers in the field of pathology.

Assistant professor

Yukinobu Ito

MD, Ph.D.
Pathologist
Graduated from Akita University (H22)

After clinical training at a general hospital, I studied pathological diagnosis at the Department of Organopathology at Akita University as a graduate student, and conducted research on angiogenesis. After graduating from graduate school, I continued my research focusing on cardiovascular pathology while working as a diagnostician. From 2022, I will be working as an assistant professor at Kanazawa University. My goal is to balance pathological diagnosis, research, and education.
